This project grew out of a correspondence course I took to learn how to take more professional pictures of my artwork. The final assignment called for a portrait, which is why I asked my friend Tim Toy to sit for me in his studio. I enjoyed the process of photographing an artist in their studio so much that I decided not to stop. This book can be considered the culmination of this project. For now. After all, I know more artists.

To the artists who welcomed me into their sanctuaries and shared their spirit with me; and to the one who didn't balk when I snapped his photo during the opening of his show: thank you for your trust.
