Le Moelleux (The Squishy) Shawl

The name for this design was suggested to me by a viewer of my podcast and I love the idea behind it. Le Moelleux is French and means squishy, it is also a term used for the pastry Brioche in France as well … so Le Moelleux Shawl is quite simply The Squishy Brioche Shawl … a name that perfectly embodies the best aspects of this garment.
This pattern is a great way to get familiar with the basics of two colour brioche knitting. If this is your first time knitting brioche, I strongly recommend using lifelines in your work as correcting mistakes in brioche is potentially tricky (although I do show you how to do that in the video tutorial).

This pattern is highly customisable. For example, you can use different weights and amounts of yarn. For example, you can use up scraps of leftover yarns for the contrast colour, along with a solid/tonal neutral as the main colour. Additionally, if you have a lot of yardage, you can work the repeat as many times as you like to use up as much yarn as possible before binding off.
There are two versions of the design included in this pattern, a symmetrical version of the shawl and an asymmetrical version. The measurements and instructions in the pattern will give you the following approximate finished sizes.
Symmetrical Size - 190cm (75 inches) on the longest edge & 76cm (30 inches) deep.
Asymmetrical Size - 200cm (79 inches) on the longest edge & 45cm (18 inches) deep.
Yarn: 200g total of fingering weight:
* 1x400m/440yds – approx. 100g skein of fingering weight for the main colour (MC)
* 1x400m/440yds – approx. 100g skein of fingering weight for the contrast colour (CC)
Needles: 3.75mm (US 5) circular needle with a cable long enough (min 80cm/32in) to accommodate all the stitches.
Notions: Progress keeper to keep track of your repeats.
Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this pattern. Choose yarn and needles that produce a fabric you are happy with.
