The Awakening Heart for Solo Flute was commissioned by and dedicated to Alan Weiss, artist in residence with the Hynes Flute Company in Boston. The work has a duration of six minutes and is divided into two sections titled: Emergence and Dance.
Autobiographical in nature, the first section “Emergence” represents the slow and often painful process of recovery following the ending of a relationship. For me all love is guided by the heart and just as trees and flowers have the amazing ability to regenerate after fire or extreme weather, the human heart is also able to reopen and find it’s way back to a state of love tenderness and flexibility. The second section titled “Dance” is evocative of the joyful freedom expierenced by reclaimimg love for oneself and for others.
