Personalized book list

to unlock your child's reading potential

THIS IS FOR YOU IF...

  • You’re a Christian mom
  • You are trying to find books for your children but are worried about the content and you fee overwhelmed thinking about how to find books your children will actually enjoy
  • You want to do homeschooling in a way that brings God into the picture
  • You want your children to actually enjoy the books they are reading

Have you ever gone to the library or a bookstore and picked up a book but questioned if it was safe to read?

I have been there.

That is why I wanted to put together this personalized book list. I have been researching books and their content for years and have found so many wonderful books. When any of my siblings or people I know are looking for a book I love being able to connect them with books I think they will love and enjoy. My brothers are picky readers and don't tend like reading but I have been able to find them books they actually love! I want to do the same for you! All you have to do is answer a few questions for me and then I will send you a book list tailored to your interests and grade level.

Growing up I remember my mom asking groups on Facebook for book recommendations for me. But I still needed to look up the content because some were from a christian perspective and a lot weren't.

I want to recommend you safe godly novels for you and your family. All you have to do is answer a few quick questions!

But let me start by saying this…

You see, at seven years old I could not read. gasp It was awful. I could not make the words make any sense whatsoever. I would try to read, but would always end up in tears with the words all funny and jumbled.

Then, when I was seven years old, I gave my life to Christ, and He changed everything.

I still remember that day, sitting in the back of the church. Once the pastor asked if anyone wanted to be saved and believe in Jesus, my hand shot up. It always did. But this day was different. I had this thought pop up into my mind that I wanted to read the Bible and was sad that I could not. Then I got hot all over and I just started crying. I didn’t know what was wrong with me? Why was I crying like this? I ran out of the sanctuary to find my mom. Thankfully, she had the wisdom to pull me aside and sit me down. I told her what happened, and that I didn’t know what was wrong with me. She assured me that nothing was wrong, but actually something good was happening. She said that Jesus was in my heart now and that must be what I was feeling. Immediately I felt better and was at peace.

Remember, I couldn’t read before this.

The next morning I woke up, flipped through my little kid Bible with a pink Veggie Tales book cover and started reading Leviticus. I was READING! Why Leviticus was the first book I read, I have no idea, but I could read and it was the Bible, so that was all that really mattered to me.

I could read! And I fell in love with reading and then later writing stories!

Why look up content in books?

The short answer is that I am a Christian and I have values I want to preserve and honor.

While I am an adult now and have probably grown out of my parents’ book rules, I still want to be careful about what books I read and the thoughts I put into my mind. The kinds of things I avoid reading may not be what you avoid. I think it is important to hold to your values.

Sometimes the only way you can do this is by looking up the content and not being surprised.

Also, if you are a parent or a grandparent and you want to give your children or grandchildren books without accidentally giving them something scandalous…looking up stories is a must. My siblings know they can come to me and have me look up any story they are interested in and tell them if it is safe or not.

I still look up every book I read before reading it to check the content unless they are trusted Christian authors, or the writer is dead.

For some reason, many dead authors (not all) had moral backbones different from our modern sensibilities. Not all. This isn’t a rule. I just know if I’m going to read a classic, nine out of ten times it is safe. For example, I don’t feel the need to look up the content for novels written by C. S. Lewis, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, J. R. R. Tolkien, L.M. Montgomery or Beatrix Potter.

WHY WORK WITH ME?

I have been recommending books for YEARS to my siblings and friends. It is a joy to find a book you love and see it spark joy in others.

I am also a children's book author and crafting and finding books full of beauty, wonder, courage, and that align with our values is so important to me.

Children (and adults) need good stories.

My job here is to connect you to wonderful stories.

But you might be asking why? Why work with me when you can just look up books to read or use AI?

Yes, you can use AI tools but they aren't always reliable or are able to give you the specifics you need that a human mind can.

Besides nothing beats having real human connection and a real person thinking through what you might love and giving recommendations specific to your likes and dislikes. It makes it feel more special and trustworthy.

Hi! I'm Moriyah!

Welcome to my cozy corner of the world. I’m a Christian, children’s book writer and tea enthusiast. Even in my twenties I look through every wardrobe for Narnia and long to be an author like Jo March.

I was homeschooled for 13 years and graduated as an A student. I loved being homeschooled and learning was a joy. My favorite thing to do was read (and study science).

My favorite way to study English and do assignments was by doing novel studies (aka reading books and then writing essays or doing creative writing prompts).

I want to give you the same tools I used and created in high school. That is why I created Lamppost Press.
