5th Grade Bigger Kid Bigger Words
The words included are all words that will empower your students by expanding their vocabulary and enabling them to replace commonly used words with "bigger" words.
Students will learn the following “big words”: scent, intention, appointed, manufacture, schedule, pleasant, expect, sincerely, lesion, similar, incompatible, flavorful, startle, preferred, murmur, ultimately, pledge, lighten, suggest, delectable, consist, pursue, prohibit, despair, meddle, unforeseen, hesitate, conceal, silhouette, honor, duplicate, indicate, premium, devastate, escort, perplexed, obstacle, expanded, extinct, access, pamphlet, hilarious, revolted, mimic, dictate, comprehend, lure, erupt, permit, topple, associate, heroic.
The 5th grade vocabulary words included were built from an analysis of difficult words that appear in basal readers and other books commonly read in the 5th grade. These spelling words can be challenging but they set the foundation for a more expanded academic vocabulary.
By the end of the year, fifth graders should demonstrate an understanding of text and word meaning, integrate knowledge and ideas, and read and comprehend literature. In order to do that, we must encourage them to use BIGGER words in their vocabulary. An example of this would be instead of saying trash students are encouraged to say garbage or find other synonyms in the choices provided. These sheets will expand their field of view mentally of other words that can better get the point across in every day conversations.
