The Road to Emmaus Made Simple
You are on the road to Emmaus right now. It is the road of disappointed hope — walked by people who believed God was going to do one thing, watched Him do another, and left the city of their expectations with their heads down.
Luke 24:13-35 is one of the most tender passages in all of Scripture. On the very day of His resurrection, Jesus Christ — the risen Son of God and Son of Man, our Lord and Savior — went for a walk. He joined Himself to two heartbroken disciples on an ordinary road and opened, first the Scriptures, and then their eyes. Seven miles, and everything changed.
Eleven devotional chapters, each with Scripture, reflection, application, and prayer. Explicitly Trinitarian: the Father who planned the whole journey, Jesus Christ — Son of God and Son of Man, Lord and Savior — who walks beside us and opens the Word, and the Holy Spirit who opens blind eyes and makes burning hearts burn. Every prayer is to the Father, through Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit.
Read one chapter a day. Walk slowly. Listen deeply. Walk on.
