This pattern is part of The Bendigo Project 2026!

The theme for The Bendigo Project in 2026 is Texture & Twist, a delightful exploration of knit and crochet textured stitch patterns and cables. The Bendigo Project Knitalong will commence on Saturday 28th of March at 7.30pm via Zoom, and will conclude with a meet up at The Australian Sheep and Wool Show, in Bendigo, Saturday July 18th 2026.

Noble is a timeless cable jumper, featuring an alternating and all over cable and broken rib pattern.

It has a relaxed unisex fit and instructions for 2 different sleeve and body lengths. The pattern includes options for a split or straight hem, and a crew neck or a turtle neck.


Design notes


The sweater is worked bottom up and in the round.

The hem, cuffs and neckline feature k1, p1 ribbing.

The main body, sleeves and yoke feature a cable and broken rib pattern. 

There are written and charted instructions for the cables.


Variation options:

Two hem options: straight hem and split hem.

Two neckline options: Crew neck and Turtle neck.

You can mix and match these variations according to your fit and style preference.

 - LENGTH A is graded according to women's sizing standards.

 - LENGTH B is graded according to men's sizing standards.

10–20 cm / 4–8" of positive ease at widest part of chest

Sample fit notes:

*Golden sample is a Size 4, LENGTH A with split hem and turtle neck. It has modified body and sleeve lengths: the sleeve length is 42 cm / 16.5”, and the body length is 30.5cm / 12”.

Susanna is 160 cm / 5ft 2” tall and has approx. 104 cm / 41” full bust and 94 cm / 37” upper bust measurements and has about 12cm / 5” of positive ease at full bust.


*Navy sample is a Size 6, LENGTH B with straight hem and crew neck. It has modified body and sleeve lengths: the sleeve length is 52 cm / 20.5”, and the body length is 48cm / 19”.

The male model is 198 cm / 6ft 6” tall and has about 15cm / 6” of positive ease around the widest part of the body.

The female model is 172 cm / 5ft 7” tall and has about 30cm / 12” of positive ease ease at full bust.


Yarn


8ply / DK–worsted weight wool or wool blend yarn. 

Non superwash and woollen spun yarn is recommended.


Samples are knit with a woollen spun Fibre Arts Shed Fae 8 ply (75% Merino, 15% Corriedale, 10% Sari Silk, 200m / 220yds — 80g), in colourway Harvest Fae. This is a non-superwash, woollen spun yarn.


Golden sample is worked in colourway Harvest Fae, Navy smaple is worked in colourway Midnight Fae, Light frey sample is worked in colourway High Fae.

Needles


Suggested needle sizes:

A: 3.5mm / US4 circular needles.

B: 4.0mm / US6 circular needles.

C: 4.5mm / US7 circular needles.

Note: Find the size C needle to get gauge first and then size down 1 size for size B and 2 sizes for size A.


Notions


Stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle. 


Gauge


Measured from blocked and fully dry and relaxed fabric:

20 sts and 31 rows = 10cm / 4" with Size C needle (suggested size 4.5mm / US7) in Broken rib pattern worked flat and in the round.
