Crenellate is a top-down triangular shawl with a contrasting garter-stitch edging. The increases in the body of the shawl are created with yarn-overs and the stitch patterns are simply worked with knit and purl stitches creating a textural design that catches the light in different ways and different directions. The number of diamonds and rectangles in each repeat increases as the shawl grows. Although the shawl is worked flat, you will need a circular needle to accommodate all the sts; work as you would on straight needles, turning at the end of each row.

Crenellate will be re-launched as an individual pattern available for sale on Friday 26th September 2025.

Notes

1. Using a cable cast-on technique for all the short cast-on sections of the border adds stability to the crenellated shaping of the border.

2. To help check counting, the centre of the diamond pattern will always be above the centre of the rectangles and the centre of the nine stitches between the rectangles.
