Translating lived occupational stories into clear clinical reasoning and shared understanding.

Occupational therapy is full of stories. Lived, layered, and deeply shaped by context. People tell us about what matters to them, what has been lost, what feels hard to put into words, and what they hope might change. Hearing these stories is rarely the problem. The harder part is making sense of them in a way that can be shared, held by others, and used to guide care.

This training focuses on the movement from story to structure. It explores how to work with occupational narratives in a way that keeps their humanity intact, while also making them clinically useful within teams, systems, and documentation.

The aim is to help occupational therapists bridge the space between lived experience and professional reasoning without flattening meaning or relying on overly reductive language.

Together, we will look at how occupational stories can be organised into patterns, themes, and formulations that support intervention planning, interdisciplinary communication, and ethical decision-making. The session offers ways of thinking and speaking that help make complex occupational lives visible and understandable to others, while remaining grounded in core occupational therapy values.

This is not about forcing stories into rigid templates or stripping away nuance. It is about creating enough structure to support shared understanding, so that occupational insight can travel beyond the therapy space and genuinely influence care.

This training is well suited to occupational therapists working in mental health, neurodivergence, community practice, leadership, supervision, or any role where clearly articulating clinical reasoning really matters.

When stories are held with structure, they can begin to guide meaningful action.
