+++This is a measure and cut pattern which means that there are NO TEMPLATES to print off and match up- Yay! You need a rotary cutter, ruler and mat and you can cut the pattern pieces straight from the fabric. This is easier than it sounds because the pieces are all simple squares and rectangles.
When you buy this pattern, you have my permission to make this bag to sell- no mass production allowed of course but a few to sell at craft fairs or online, that sort of thing is fine. All I ask is that you credit me as the designer. I wish you all the success in the world with sales!

I sew and therefore I have scraps. And mess. I make a mess. Or rather my sewing things do so perhaps I am not to blame…I wanted to address both of these heinous crimes with one pattern and I think that I am a long way along the road to doing that. This pattern uses a QAYG technique to ‘make’ fabric and the finished article is FABULOUS for sewing room storage. Or bathroom. Or baby’s room. I store my wool in one and it is great for curating the needs of a project. I can gather everything and make sure that I have it and then it goes into the one portable cube ready for making.
This pattern offers you the versatility of three sizes and I am pretty sure that you will find uses for all of them.
Pattern Rating: confident beginner sewist with some knowledge assumed.
Finished Sizes:
Large basket- 7 ½” tall x 8 ½” wide x 7 ½” deep
Medium basket- 6 ½” tall x 7” wide x 6” deep
Small basket- 5 ¼” tall x 6” wide x 4” deep
Suggested Fabrics: quilting weight cotton (for the top and lining), for the base- denim, canvas, furnishing fabrics, linen, needle cord
TIP: NEVER pass a curtain or furnishing remnant bin without having a rummage if you are a bag maker! Those fabrics are the perfect weight!
Gather these supplies:
Fabric:
Scraps of quilting cotton in assorted patterns and colours. The amount will depend on the size of the basket.
Canvas or denim for the base Large- FQ (M: FQ S: FQ)
Lining fabric Large- ½ yd. (M: FQ S: FQ)
Interfacing:
#279 80/20 cotton mix batting (Vlieseline) or any thin cotton mix batting-
Large- FQ (M: FQ S: FQ)
Style-vil foam (Vlieseline) or alternatively By Annie’s Soft and Stable-
Large- ½ yd. (M: FQ S: FQ )
Everything Else:
2” wide x 9” long scrap of thin leather or vegan leather for the handles (hereafter, leather)
Rivets and the tools for setting them.
TIP: rivets are optional but it gives you another look for your cubes and will be kinder on your machine if you have a lighter model
Leather hole punch (if using the rivet option)
Coordinating threads for all fabrics and trims
Your usual sewing needs including scissors and markers. You know, the usual stuff!
