Not Two — An Advaita Vedānta Reader (PDF + EPUB)
What remains when a person dies? What is the self? What follows if it is not
separate from the reality it seeks?
Not Two gives these questions room to unfold. It starts with Naciketas facing
Death in the Kaṭha Upaniṣad; moves through the identity sayings of the
Chāndogya, Bṛhadāraṇyaka, and the customary three-chapter Aitareya; reads the complete Bhagavad Gītā as a
discipline of action and knowledge; follows the opening pāda of Śaṅkara's
commentary on the Brahma-Sūtras; and closes with four lectures by Vivekananda.
The order is the editorial argument: question, identity, method, system, voice.
This is a reading edition, not a quick anthology of famous lines. The source
notes name the public-domain translations, distinguish complete works from
selections, and record textual variants that matter. The nineteenth-century
English is left in its historical setting, with the edition's interventions
disclosed. Ten scan-derived selections were checked against page images; the
Śaṅkara selection was set from a keyed historical edition and checked for
structure and transliteration, not proofed page by page. It does not claim
the authority of a living teacher or lineage.
