Trumpet King Fanfare

Trumpet Trio

By Eddie Lewis

Capture everyone’s attention with the Trumpet King Fanfare. This is an original fanfare for three trumpets that proudly proclaims, “The King has arrived!”

Use Trumpet King Fanfare to herald anything from the beginning of a concert program to the entrance of people you wish to recognize as being important. This is the type of fanfare trumpet players will be playing on herald trumpet gigs for years to come.

If you know Eddie Lewis’ music, then you also know that much of what he composes is Christian at heart. The Trumpet King Fanfare can be used to herald anyone for any purpose, but the official “Trumpet King” glorified in this fanfare is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, Jesus Christ! So feel free to utilize this trumpet fanfare in your church services whenever fanfares seem appropriate.

About Trumpet King Fanfare

Trumpet King Fanfare is not modern sounding, but it’s not Renaissance either. The use of sevenths in the chord structure gives the fanfare more of a contemporary sound without crossing the line into the genuine dissonances associated with modern music.

The composition is short, less than thirty seconds long – as a good fanfare should be.

Skill Level

Technically this Trumpet King Fanfare is at our Trumpet Apprentice skill level. The highest note in the first part is B flat above the staff. However, the intervallic figure in measure seven in the first part takes a bit of skill to make it sound good. For that reason, the first part should not go to someone who only recently began playing at the Trumpet Apprentice skill level.

Practice Recommendations

If the high B flat in measure seven is a problem for the first trumpet player, consider changing that note to an A. A was the original note and Eddie changed it to B flat to give it some variety from the previous statement of that motif in the third measure.

Consider putting slight diminuendos on the sustained notes to allow the other moving lines to come forward.

Trumpet Apprentice Skill Level

The Trumpet Apprentice skill level is the fourth skill level in our system. This skill level has exercises and music up to B flat above the staff. There are many other considerations in this skill level but that is the most obvious.

To find more music for this specific skill level, search our other publications for the word “Apprentice” in the title or descriptions. We publish books and compositions for students at the Trumpet Apprentice level that we believe your students will truly enjoy.
