Welcome to the Spring Blanket KAL. A short, focused 4-week long KAL with a new update in your inbox every Monday morning during the month of March.

This is not a mystery KAL as such - it's a pattern for a square blanket (approx 40" square) which was inspired by the textures seen in gansey sweaters. Bands of textured knit/purl stitches are interspersed with bands of plain stocking stitch to create a warm, woolly, cosy hug of a blanket.

The blanket is knit flat in DK weight yarn but it would work with heavier weights too as long as you used an appropriate needle size.

Needles: 4.5mm circular needle at least 80cm long.

Gauge: 20sts and 26 rows to 10cm (4")

Yarn: 14 skeins of Ewe and Ply Shropshire DK (Catkins) 50g 120m (132yds)

Yarn used: approx 1680m (1837 yds).

Yarn substitution: the yarn used is a relatively woolly and rustic one with the following composition: 34% Welsh Mule, 28% Shropshire, 20% Sherino, 18% Bluefaced Leicester.
