The Renault Trucks Defense (now Arquus) company developed and manufactured the French armoured personnel carrier and support vehicle known as the VAB. Its full name is "Armoured Forward Vehicle," however "Armoured Vanguard Vehicle" is a better translation. It entered service in 1976, and only 5,000 units were produced. It has been exported to more than 15 other countries and has been used in combat in several conflicts in Africa, Asia, and Europe.
