Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen "Wolf"
INFORMATION
Geländewagen is the name given to the sport utility vehicle (SUV) with four-wheel drive built by Steyr-Puch in Austria for Mercedes-Benz (or cross-country vehicle). The G-Wagen is characterized by its body-on-frame construction and boxy styling. This car is one of the few with three fully locking differentials. The 32-year-old G-Class is the longest-running Mercedes-Benz in Daimler's history. It was replaced in 2006 with the unibody crossover SUV Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, which is still in production today. The Shah of Iran's suggestion to Mercedes in 1979 resulted in the development of the G-class as a military vehicle. The G-class replaced the more affordable Volkswagen Iltis in 1990. It is sometimes referred to in this capacity as the "Wolf."
