Use leftover self-patterning sock yarn paired with a solid from your stash to knit these fun Fair Isle-like mittens. Six mitten sizes range from newborn to big kids.


This knitting pattern includes written instructions and a photo tutorial for working the thumb opening.

Sizes/Finished Measurements
  • To fit Baby (1-2 yrs, 2-4 yrs, 4-5 yrs, 6-8 yrs, 8+ yrs)
  • Finished hand circumference: 4 1⁄2 (4 3⁄4, 5 1⁄4, 5 1⁄2, 6, 6 1⁄2)” / 11.5 (12, 13.5, 14, 15, 16.5) cm
  • Hand length: 3 1⁄2 (4, 4 3⁄4, 5 1⁄4, 5 3⁄4, 6 1⁄2)” / 9 (10, 12, 13, 14.5, 16) cm

Yarn
  • Sock yarn (fingering weight)
  • Self-Patterning: 15 (17, 22, 25, 30, 36) yd / 14 (16, 20, 23, 28, 34) m
  • Solid Colour: 12 (20, 24, 29, 33, 39) yd / 11 (18, 22, 27, 31, 36) m

Substitution Notes
Fingering weight and sock yarns work well for this project. For warmth, choose yarns with at least some wool in them.
