Like its northern cousin Aldred, Tikal is inspired by architecture – in this case an edging, resembling the pyramids at the Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala, features ribbing to echo the pyramid staircases.
Tikal uses garter stitch short rows to create a graceful arc and give the shawl depth. Tikal comes in one size, and the pattern includes written instructions only.
For the adventurous intermediate knitter.
Suggested yarns:
Indigodragonfly Polwarth Silk
Yarn weight: DK (11 wpi)
Gauge: 17 stitches and 38 rows = 10 cm in Garter Stitch, blocked
Needle size: US 5 - 3.75 mm
Yardage: 680 yards (622 m)
Blocked Size: 122 cm / 48 inches wingspan; 39.4 cm / 15.5 inches deep at centre
