Quilt Blocks Face/Bath Cloths, PDF pattern

About The Design

Whenever I need design inspiration, I tend to look to other textiles. Simple (and some not very simple) geometric patchwork quilt blocks translate easily into knitting, especially in garter stitch.

These cloths are pleasant to knit, in KnitPicks Dishie cotton yarn. The bathroom cupboards are being filled with decorative and useful cloths, which will add my own personal style to the ongoing process I have been engaged in, of unifying the house’s decor into a beach and farmhouse style – hence the color palette I have chosen for these samples of white, ecru, linen, coral, and 3 shades of blue.

The graphic nature of these motifs work equally well in shades of grey and white, for those with a contemporary decor! The patterns can also be knit with other types of yarns and sewn together for a cushion cover or an afghan!

Average width and length of each cloth: 10.5”

(The Stripes & Solids cloths are 9.5” square.)

Materials

All cloths are knit in KnitPicks Dishie, 100% cotton, approx 190 yds / 100 gr skeins.

Stripes & Solids: 1 skein each Pomegranate (A) and Linen (B). Approx. 46 yds. A and 57 yds. B are needed per cloth. Sample weighs 54 gr.

Fence Rails (sample 1): 1 skein each Swan (A), Linen (B), and Dewdrop (C).

Fence Rails (sample 2): 1 skein each Navy (A), Linen (B), and Swan (C).

Approx. 44 yds. each A and B, and 57 yds. C are needed per cloth. Samples each weigh 72 gr.

Dominos (sample 1): 1 skein each White (A), Dewdrop (B), and Navy (C).

Dominos (sample 2): 1 skein each Swan (A), Silver (B), and Ash (C).

Approx. 51 yds. each A and B, and 37 yds. C are needed per cloth. Samples each weigh 73 gr.

Flying Geese: 1 skein each Swan (A) and Navy (B). Approx. 78 yds. A and 63 yds. B are needed per cloth. Sample weighs 74 gr.

Bowties (sample 1): 1 skein each Swan (A), Linen (B), and Conch (C).

Bowties (sample 2): 1 skein each Linen (A), Swan (B), and Dewdrop (C).

Approx. 76 yds. A, 48 yds. B, and 15 yds. C are needed per cloth. Samples each weigh 73 gr.

US size 5 (3.75 mm) dpns, straight ndls, or your preferred length of circular ndl  Size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook

Tapestry ndl

Gauge

22 sts & 28 rows = 4” in Stockinette, and 22 sts and 20 ridges (40 rows) = 4” in garter stitch, using size 5 (3.75 mm) ndls or size to give gauge.
