gallinaceous knit hat pattern
This is a pattern for a beanie style hat worked in the round featuring stranded colourwork and a braid detail.
This design is a New York farm to hat project. All materials were grown, shorn, processed, dyed, and knit in New York. Support small farm yarn!
yarn:
Blue Pepper Farm yarn; 2ply Dk/light worsted; 80% wool 20% alpaca; small farm yarn approximately 200yds / 183m / 100g yarn; sheared by Mary Lake at Can Do Shearing and milled at Battenkill Fiber Mill
approximate yarn amounts:
colour A (Madder dyed or Dark Grey) - 50 g; 100yds / 92m
colour B (Cream or Oatmeal) - 35g; 70yds / 64m
needles:
3.25mm (us no 3) circular needles
3.75mm (us no 5) circular needles
DPNs 6in/15cm; set of 5 for crown shaping
gauge:
23 sts x 24 rows = 4in/10cm measured over stranded stockinette on 3.75mm needles
approximate finished size:
one size fits many 21-25 in/53cm-63.5 cm head
