Pieter Roux and Ben Adriaan have been arguing since they were nineteen years old.

And on an ordinary Wednesday night, a phone call very nearly ends the argument — and the friendship — for good.

Beyond Systems follows two friends through fruit farms and factory floors, boardrooms and cardiac wards, in search of an answer neither Adam Smith nor Karl Marx ever fully had to give. What they find isn't a winner. It's something older than either tradition, and considerably harder to argue with.
