PLUS a kit to facilitate your discussions with your children.
I wrote these books to support conversations I have been having with my children - currently 10, 7, 5 and 3 years old.
Highlighting and defining key words, sharing what kids can do to help mama, what mama experiences and more. The key message of these books is that no matter what mama experiences in her body, she always loves her children.
These books are part explanation for children and part advocacy. Let’s raise a generation of inclusive children.
Thank you for writing such a wonderful, informative book. As a person living with a chronic illness it was very helpful for me and as a guide to explain my illness to family and friends. – Parent
I love how the author explains chronic illnesses , their diagnosis, symptoms, treatments, limitations and how to live a full life while coping with illness. – S.O
“A wonderful, brightly colored, upbeat and accessible book about a sweet young boy who works to understand and support his mother. Its practical, straightforward text explains the difficulties of living with chronic pain in a way that children with affected parents can understand—something that much of us affected by illness with children may not be able to do on our own but is so crucial to their emotional health. Providing to children this insight into an issue that affects the life of a family at its core can helps to combat fear and confusion.” Sarah P
Key Questions
What age ranges are they best for?
I think they will be best understood by children ages 6-12. However it does depend on your child’s comprehension and willingness to engage and ask questions. My 3 and 5 year old’s enjoyed reading them with my older two. My Mama Has Chronic Pain is a little simpler than the other two - there's a lot less tricky terminology for this one.
Are they non-fiction?
Yes, they are educational books. I define words such as chronic, diagnose, and flare up. The books share symptoms, treatments and ways to manage chronic illness as a family – in child-friendly terms.

Who’s the author?
Melissa Reynolds. I’m a mama of four small children and I’ve lived with chronic symptoms (including chronic pain) since I was 14 years old. It began with growing pains that were more troublesome for me than most children. I’m the founder of www.melissavsfibromyalgia.com, the author of several books including Pregnancy and Fibromyalgia, Melissa vs Fibromyalgia and Fibromyalgia Won’t Win. My mission is to share everything I learn so that others don’t have to spend as long as I did with no support or answers.
