Honeysuckle Rose - Herman Chittison (1934)
Midi reperformance. Herman Chittison was one of the pianists who could rival Art Tatum in terms of raw flash and virtuosity. He had similarly blazing arpeggio technique, huge hands that could walk tenths at speeds unimaginable, and like Tatum he could be cheaper like in this recording or he could be incredibly elegant like in his recording of Flamingo from 1941.
This performance quotes the Django Reinhardt/Stephane Grapelli riff they used on this tune.
