Hi there! I'm Piotr Barcz. I'm a Polish guitarist, sound and midi engineer, and photographer/videographer among other things.

Midi reperformance transcription information:

I do midi reperformance transcriptions of piano performances. These are essentially carbon copies of the original performances as when each note starts, ends, how long it plays, and sustain pedal usage are all recorded.

My transcriptions are suitable for using as a reference to make an engraving into notation, playing back on a solenoid player piano, and can be synchronized with the original recording (say if it's video or a band recording) to replace the original piano audio.

NOTE for PLAYER PIANO ROLL manufacturers:

These midis are NOT suitable for piano rolls! Please contact me directly and I will edit them for player piano so the rolls actually come out playable! This is very important as sustain pedal and note lengths in an accurate reperformance don't carry over well onto rolls.

Things to know about commissions:

If you would like to commission or request a transcription from me then use the contact form and I can see if it's something I can do. I edit the files down to the midi tick and depending on the tune they can take a considerable amount of time to complete sometimes.

I try my best to outdo my colleagues in the field so there is solid chance my results will be the best you can get or so help me!

Prices are as follows (I may have to charge a small premium for egregiously elaborate performances like those of Art Tatum's and similar but that's a per case thing):

3 EUR for audio over a minute and a half and under 3 minutes in length (2:59 max)

5 EUR for audio 3 minutes in length and up (4:59 max)

Everything 5 minutes and over is 10 EUR and I'll adjust if the source material is particularly difficult to work with.

Oh I also can do 1 euro oneshots for short piano solos and the like. Under 1 and a half minutes.

And if they're even shorter than that I'll probably just do them free though if someone throws me a buck for the small stuff then I'm always grateful for it! :P

IMPORTANT;

I can ONLY transcribe the piano part of an ensmble recording. If the piano is in an orchestra and not audible enough to give a clean transcription then I won't waste your money and our time on a low quality result.

If the piano is part of a small jazz combo and not a big band then most of the time I can extract it cleanly and transcribe that.

The higher quality the better when it comes to sound but I've been able to transcribe some abysmally low quality recordings and still get most of the notes out and add back missing ones.

Jelly Roll Morton's Library Of Congress recordings are the worst quality I've successfully done.

Please note that I do NOT make scores and I can't read sheet music.

I have enough of an understanding of notation that I can in theory write scores but that depends on the following:

1. If the rhythmic content of the music isn't too complex (otherwise I can't write out anything but the notes)
2. If the above is the case it still takes me literal days to complete a score and it ends up unreadable due to me not being able to write accidentals as per notation conventions (only duration and rhythm will be mostly accurate)

This taken into account I'm not the guy for any job like that.
