Ear pain is a common presentation in urgent, primary and emergency care, but distinguishing between otitis externa and otitis media is not always straightforward. This short course provides a practical, clinician-focused approach to assessment, history-taking, otoscopy findings, red flags and management considerations. Designed for clinicians working in UTC, ED, SDEC, out-of-hours, primary care and minor illness settings, the course includes a recorded teaching session, downloadable quick-reference resources, case-based questions and a certificate of completion. The focus is on real-world decision-making, safe escalation and clear safety-netting, while encouraging learners to apply local antimicrobial guidance, organisational policy and their own scope of practice.
