WHY THIS EXISTS

Most pet-care printables store information. The harder problem is transferring responsibility.

What feels obvious to an owner can be unclear to a sitter, relative or friend: what is normal for this pet, whether a dose was actually given, who should be called first, what the caregiver is allowed to do, and what still needs attention when care returns home.

The Pet Caregiver Log was designed around that gap. It does not simply ask you to write more. It gives care a visible sequence:

HOW THE HANDOFF LOOP WORKS

READ — Start with one Current Care Card: today's priorities, restrictions, medication status and call order.

DO — Follow written times, amounts, locations and methods instead of filling in missing instructions by guesswork.

MARK — Record care while it happens. Unmarked care is treated as unknown.

ESCALATE — Record observable facts and follow the owner/veterinarian contact plan. The caregiver is not asked to diagnose or improvise.

RETURN — Close the handoff with what was completed, what changed, what remains open and what needs to happen next.

WHY THE MEDICATION SECTION IS DIFFERENT

A medication list says what exists. It does not prove what happened.

This system separates planned time, actual time, outcome, initials and exception action. GIVEN, NOT GIVEN, REFUSED, VOMITED / SPAT OUT, LATE and UNCERTAIN are not collapsed into one vague notes box. An uncertain dose is recorded and escalated—not automatically repeated.

HOW TO USE IT

Print the whole system or only the pages relevant to the current handoff. Keep them as loose sheets, on a clipboard, in a document wallet, in sheet protectors or in a simple ring binder. No special binding is required.
