Monumental do Sorraia, Op. 61
Instrumentation: Band
Duration: 3'
Level: Medium Easy
Score and parts included (printed score and digital parts)
Program Note: Although the pasodoble is often associated with Spanish culture, there are regions in Portugal — particularly Ribatejo — where this tradition is deeply rooted. As a native of Ribatejo myself, I recognize this affinity in the band of Coruche and in its conductor.
I was asked to write a simple and straightforward pasodoble de cortesía, without the customary trumpet solo, to mark their debut at the Praça Monumental do Sorraia — hence the title.
This piece was commissioned by the Sociedade Instrução Coruchense and its conductor, Carlos Silva.
