PHONICS 4 Reading Curriculum

Young children need a firm foundation in phonics in order to tackle difficult text in years to come. PHONICS4Reading program is designed to help students go from “learning to read,” to “reading to learn.” This phonics program provides year-long practice through interactive hands-on activities. This is a bundle of the ENTIRE program.

What Is Covered In This Program?

Fun Hands-on Learning’s PHONICS4Reading program is standard & skill based. Each unit provides a detailed list of the standards and skills covered, so you are fully aware of what students will be expected to learn. This program covers 9 Phonics domains for a FULL YEAR of phonics instruction.

What Are The Units?

There are 9 Units covering the following concepts:

★UNIT 1 - Alphabet: All 26 letter sounds

★UNIT 2 - Short Vowels: a, e, i, o, u, cvc words, word families, consonant/vowel blends (ex: ba, be, bi, bo, bu).

★UNIT 3 - Long Vowels: vowel teams, magic e

★UNIT 4 - Beginning Blends: l-blends, r-blends, s-blends

★UNIT 5 - Digraphs: ch, sh, th, wh, ph, kn, wr

★UNIT 6 - Trigraphs: scr, spr, squ, spl, str

★UNIT 7 - Diphthongs: au/aw, oi/oy, oo/ew, ou/ow

★UNIT 8 - R-Controlled Vowels: ar, er, ir, or, ur

★UNIT 9 - Soft C/G: cell, city, gem, giraffe, & Y as a vowel (fly, puppy).

What Is Included?

Each unit of this curriculum consists of the following 7 parts:

★Phonics Readers: Easy books that focus on specific phonetic skills.

★Activity Centers: Hands-on activity centers that provide for skill mastery, and are standard-aligned.

★Fluency Strips: Half-sheets that students can practice over & over again for phonics fluency.

★Flip-It books: Interactive phonics cards attached to book rings that give students specific practice in each phonics domain.

★Fill-It-In Mats: Mats that students will “fill-in,” focusing on particular phonics skills.

★Flash Card Sticks: Flash cards attached to craft sticks that target specific sounds.

★Build-It Strips: Strips for “building” sounds/words.
