Ember-Azure for woodwind quartet (advanced)
Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb, Bassoon
Duration: ~ 4'50"
Difficulty level: advanced - professional
This piece was originally composed in 2017 as a piece for jazz quartet entitled Autumnal Notch, paying homage to the compositional style of Maria Schneider as well as the beauty of my home state of New Hampshire. It was composed around the same time as several of the pieces featured in my debut jazz album, Arethusa Falls, the title track of which follows the journey I took into Crawford Notch in the summer of 2017 to reach the waterfall by the same name. In 2021, I arranged Ember-Azure for woodwind quartet while living in Amsterdam during the Covid lockdown, as I felt the need for a mental escape from my studio apartment.
