UK Edition: Break Request Cards and Break Tracker, SEND, KS4 and Post-16
Break request cards and a tracker for pupils who need a way to ask for a break before things go wrong. The card has to work better than the old behaviour, so the teaching notes start there.
What's included
• Break, help and space cards
• Discreet versions for older pupils, such as a card that slides to the corner of the desk
• Break menu: what I can do on my break
• When I come back card
• Weekly break tracker: time, asked with the card, minutes, returned on time, problem behaviour
How I use it
I teach the card at a calm time and have the pupil practise handing it over. For the first week every request gets honoured straight away. Breaks stay short, two to five minutes on a timer, with a clear task to come back to. Once it is working, I stretch the time between breaks slowly. The tracker shows when requests go up and the old behaviour goes down.
Good for KS1 to KS4 pupils with SEND, SEMH or ASC.
Format: PDF, 3 A4 pages.
