The Nutcracker Sequence & Write | Christmas Story Retelling Activities
Bring the magic of The Nutcracker into your classroom with an illustrated story and eight scenes to sequence and retell.
Begin with our two-page illustrated retelling. Children then cut out the picture panels, mix them up and put them back in story order. They can write about each scene, match ready-written captions, or use the picture-only story map.
Three ways to retell:
• Sequence and write: order the illustrated panels and write what is happening.
• Sequence and match captions: order the same panels, then cut out and match a caption instead of writing.
• Picture-only story map: cut, mix and sequence the picture cards on the arrowed map.
Included in this 10-page printable PDF:
• Festive colour cover, teacher guide and terms of use
• A two-page illustrated retelling, with four scenes per page
• Two sequence-and-write pages with eight large picture panels and ruled writing spaces
• Eight unnumbered caption cards for supported retelling
• A large story map and matching cut-out picture cards
Suggested ages: 5-9, with support matched to each child. Ideal for Christmas literacy, story sequencing, speaking and listening, and supported writing.
This version follows Clara, the Nutcracker and the Rat King to the Land of Sweets, ending with Clara waking beneath the Christmas tree and finding a little golden crown.
Original illustrations by Andie. The illustrated story and activity pages are black and white for easy printing. Print single-sided on A4 at 100% / actual size so the picture cards fit the story-map boxes.
