Galcantray Knitting Pattern

Galcantray is explores the spaces between stitches, using yarn overs create open columns on a stocking stitch background. This change in gauge creates a flowing curve through the sections of mesh lace and stocking stitch.

The graphic simplicity of the lace pattern would make an ideal canvas for showcasing tonal or gently variegated yarns.

Sizes
Finished length: 228 cm / 89.75 in
Finished width: 60 cm / 23.5 in.

Needles
3.25 mm, circular or straight needles

Tension
22 sts and 28 rows over 10 cm / 4 in, in stocking stitch. Block your swatch according to the finishing directions before measuring.

Tension is not critical for this shawl, but will effect the finished size and the amount of yarn used.

Yarn
800 m / 875 yds lace weight yarn. I recommend choosing a yarn that will block well,  and create a fabric with a good drape. This is the ideal project for showcasing that one special skein.

Sample is made using:
Posh Yarn Gretchen Lace; 55% Blue Faced Leicester, 45% silk; 800m / 875 yards per 100g skein.

Techniques
I-cord cast on and cast off, simple lace knitting, grafting (Kitchener stitch).
