Did you know that echidnas are often active at night?
These fascinating Australian animals are known for their spiky bodies, long snouts and love of ants and termites!
And what better way to learn about these unique creatures than through a little hands-on creativity?

Welcome to our Little Echidna’s Spiky Masterpiece!

Using cotton tips, we drew colourful lines of paint to create our echidna’s spines. Each little stroke helped bring our spiky friend to life!
But the learning doesn't stop at craft.
Here’s how we extended our learning about echidnas:
Explore nocturnal animals: Discuss how echidnas can be active at night and compare them with other nocturnal animals, such as flying foxes and tawny frogmouth owls
Learn about their diet: Echidnas use their long snouts and sticky tongues to eat ants and termites!
Develop fine motor skills: Using cotton tips to draw lines encourages hand control, coordination and creativity.
Count and compare: Count the painted spines, compare their lengths and explore different colours and patterns.
Spark curiosity: Ask children, “Why do you think an echidna has spines?” or “What other animals come out at night?”
It's amazing how one simple craft can open the door to so many learning opportunities!
Remember, the best learning can happen with a little paint, a few cotton tips and a whole lot of imagination!
