Starting High School With a Different Brain is a practical and reassuring transition workbook for children aged 10–13 who may feel anxious or overwhelmed about moving to high school.

Designed especially for children with ADHD, autism, sensory differences, anxiety, communication difficulties and other additional needs, this workbook helps young people understand what to expect and prepare for the changes ahead.

Through accessible activities and supportive prompts, children can:

• Explore their feelings about starting high school

• Identify their strengths and individual support needs

• Prepare for new routines, classrooms and timetables

• Understand their sensory needs and plan helpful breaks

• Manage their energy throughout the school day

• Practise asking adults for help and support

• Explore friendships, personal boundaries and bullying

• Identify safe adults they can speak to

• Create a personalised plan for their first week

This workbook can be completed independently or used alongside a parent, carer, teacher or support professional. It encourages open conversations and gives children a stronger voice in planning their transition.

Starting high school with a different brain may feel challenging, but the right preparation and support can make a meaningful difference.

Know what to expect. Ask for support. Make a plan.
