+PROLOGUE+

The kingdom was lost. King and queen lay beside each other in their magnificent chambers. Gold lined every wall, tapestrys of the finest silk available hung above them. The only witnesses to the nights events, a single red rose, at the foot of the bed. The only sounds that were heard even by the heavens being that of the steady "drip drip drip" of royal blood onto the marble floor. The chamber maid; unable to open the locked door; was unable to bear witness to the aftermath of the joker's revenge. Two royals, a king and his queen, lay motionless on silk sheets as their life force soaked their once unreachable sanctuary in crimson liquid; sparkling as though still alive, more and more as the sun rose in the sky; above what was once upon a time a beautiful place...
