Silent meditation

Initial teaching from Tom. Here are some notes:

  • Take advantage of the energy at satsang to come back to yourself - for some people when we first start to do this the ego/thoughts come back with a greater intensity
  • Raja, Janna, Karma, Bhakti - the four yogas that help us to manage our energies

Practical tips for seekers from Tom:

  • Stay away, as much as possible, from 'negativos' - people who are habitually complaining about others, including those on the media
  • Stay away, as much as possible from people/media that is overly materialistic eg advertisements. The message they are sending you is you need their approval or certain products/experiences to feel good about yourself. These things lower your self-esteem and reduce your capacity to feel good about yourself
  • Simplify your life, if possible. Why do we complicate our lives? Often it's ego trying to prove something
  • Move - exercise, eat healthily and don't overeat
  • Have good friends you can talk to and listen to - a balance of both
  • Stay out of other people's drama and try not to create drama (emotional stories) often involving a hero, victim and perpetrator archetypes
  • Chill out, relax, we don't have to worry to much about these things or take these things too seriously, laugh
  • Don't get too involved in sense objects, ie hedonism, the pursuit of pleasure, as this takes us away from ourselves. We can enjoy all things and let all things naturally go when we are in touch with our Self

In satsang we have a chance to come away from all these things and back to our Self

Q: I am experiencing intense suffering, can you tell me why we need to have suffering?

Q: How do karma yoga or bhakti yoga eventually turn into Self-enquiry?

Q: I came across a teaching about heart awakening, gut awakening, head awakening...do you think this is a useful teaching?
