RISE Framework Quick Guide
A 5-Page Equity-Centered Tool to Inspire Action and Transformation
The RISE Framework Quick Guide is a 5-page, research-based resource created to help educators, advisors, and institutional leaders take bold, informed steps toward retaining and supporting underrepresented students—especially African American males in community colleges.
Developed by Dr. Sylvester White, Ed.D., and grounded in his dissertation research, this guide introduces the RISE Framework—Resilience, Identity, Support, and Equity—a practical model for creating culturally responsive and student-centered change.
Each of the four framework pages is designed using a four-quadrant approach:
- The Problem – A clear statement of a systemic challenge impacting student retention.
- The Solution – A focused explanation of how a RISE pillar addresses that challenge.
- Equity Actions – Specific, actionable steps educators and leaders can take immediately.
- Call to Action – A motivational prompt to commit to next steps within your own role.
At the end of the guide, you’ll find a dedicated brainstorming space for personal transformation, where you can reflect on your current practices and write down your goals, commitments, or next equity action steps.
Whether used individually or as part of a team PD session, this guide will help you bridge reflection and action for lasting impact.
