All of the kids in the treehouse village wear full armor because through the thick of the wood, towards the tunnels to the underground city, the haze is lurking. The only way to fight off the haze is to speak the sacred words from the Book of Truth. Eden and Valor have much of the Book of Truth memorized for this very reason. But when they meet a girl from the underground city who has been spying on them, they learn that Under Dwellers don't believe the haze is a threat at all. On the contrary, the Under Dwellers believe the haze gives them special powers. When the girl from the underground city steals Eden's Book of Truth and reads it herself, she realizes she has been deceived, and she doesn't want to be controlled by the haze anymore. Now she must decide how to tell her father, the leader of the underground city.
