Ο βίος του Αγίου

Ο Άγιος Εφραίμ έζησε τον 15ο αιώνα και μόνασε στη Μονή του Ευαγγελισμού της Θεοτόκου, στον λόφο των Αμώμων, στη σημερινή Νέα Μάκρη. Κατά την περίοδο της Τουρκοκρατίας, συνελήφθη από τους Οθωμανούς και υπέστη φρικτά βασανιστήρια λόγω της ακλόνητης πίστης του στον Χριστό. Το μαρτύριό του υπήρξε μακροχρόνιο και απάνθρωπο, με αποκορύφωμα τον θάνατό του στις 5 Μαΐου 1426.

Η αποκάλυψη και η αναγνώριση

Για αιώνες, η ύπαρξη και το μαρτύριο του Αγίου Εφραίμ παρέμεναν άγνωστα.
