Hana-bi means fireworks in Japanese, and you can see their sparkling trails rising from the border of fountain lace in this crescent shaped shawl, which can be worked in either of two sizes: small or large.

Unlike in my previous crescent shaped designs (Amalia, Calsada and Aldred) which use a short-row construction technique, the curvature in Hana-bi is achieved using keystone shaped panels, giving the shawl a constant depth across the shoulders.

This pattern is for experienced lace knitters. Although general instructions and tips are provided, there are no written instructions for the lace pattern, which is fully charted.

The pattern as written includes beadwork (applied with a crochet hook while working the lace), but instructions are given on how to omit the beads if desired.

Schematics are provided for blocking to finished size - sizing and shape details for both sizes are shown in the photos..
