Rainforest Ambience Phong Nha Vietnam
Recording the diverse sounds of nature offers its own set of challenges, yet the rewards are immeasurably fulfilling. I went on a motorbike journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi to record sounds spanning from the bustling city vibes and heavy traffic of Ho Chi Minh City to the serene tugboats of the Mekong Delta and the lively markets of Hanoi.
However, it was upon my arrival in Phong Nha that I felt as if I had stepped into an entirely different world.
Phong Nha, with its breathtaking landscapes and home to the world’s largest caves, is a destination I’d urge anyone to visit. Its natural beauty and the backdrop it provided for the movie Kong: Skull Island add to its allure. Yet, a word of advice: try to visit before the surge of tourism alters its serene atmosphere.
In Phong Nha, the idea to record sounds presented numerous hurdles. Adverse weather conditions and a lack of preparation for the jungle’s demanding environment posed significant challenges. Nonetheless, within the Botanical Garden and a secluded spot near Paradise Cave by a tranquil river, I managed to record a rich array of sounds. I was greeted by the melodious tunes of birds, the croaking of frogs, and the gentle cascade of waterfalls, all with minimal interference from human-made noise.
My journey through Phong Nha in 2019 was as challenging as it was gratifying, and I’m eager to share this auditory journey of this incredible place with the world through this nature sound library.
