I love fades, and they always make me think of things dissipating or disaperating, especially with speckled yarn. Hence the name Evanesce (to dissipate into vapor).
If you are anything like me, you buy beautiful mini-skeins (like Hedgehog Fibres sock minis) for “someday” and have extra sock weight yarn around “just in case”. This stash-busting pattern allows you to use them and look good while doing it!
The hat is approximately 22” around when finished, using seed stitch and six different colors to create this fade.
You will be holding two sock yarns together at all times, and will end up
switching one out every eight rows. If your leftovers are a little over or
under – Never Fear! You will still be able to get the same effect by
switching 1/21 rows early or late.
Note: Be sure to cake the yarn so that you have access to both ends for
the fade effect to work.
Hint: The best way that I like to make a fade is to choose the two
outside colors and find ones in between that make it fade from first to
the last.
There are matching mittens too!
