All about this Amigurumi Crochet Goat Pattern

What am I buying?

It's an original digital 15 page, easy to follow, professionally tech edited, printable PDF pattern to crochet your own Goat, including 16 photos showing him from all angles.

Please note - you are NOT buying a finished toy - you are buying a digital pattern to crochet your own Amigurumi character!

The pattern's written in English - available in both US and UK Crochet Terms - please select from the options above.

Please be aware that US and UK Crochet Terms are NOT the same - make sure you buy the version of this pattern that uses the terms you're familiar with, otherwise your finished character will be distorted.

Familiar with the term "sc" for Single Crochet? You're used to patterns written in US Terms.

If the patterns you usually use do not feature "sc" for Single Crochet, then you're used to patterns written in UK Terms.

How difficult is the pattern?

It's Intermediate, suitable for crocheters who've already grasped the basics of amigurumi crochet - if you can make one of the free patterns on mycrochetchums.com, you can make this!

Links are included in the pattern to Photo Tutorials on the website for relevant topics including Working a Magic Ring, How to Secure and Hide Yarn Tails, and Joining Amigurumi Parts Together Seamlessly.

I'm always happy to help by email if anything puzzles you!

What stitches & techniques are used?

  • Magic Ring
  • UK double crochet/US single crochet
  • Chain
  • Slip Stitch
  • Working in BLO/FLO
  • Increasing/Decreasing
  • Basic embroidery techniques
  • The parts are crocheted separately and then sewn together.

How big will the finished item be?

Approx 38cm/15in from top to toe when made using a 5mm hook with the yarn specified below.

You can scale this pattern up or down by altering the yarn and hook. Use a heavier weight yarn and larger hook for a bigger Goat and a lighter weight yarn and smaller hook for a little one. The pattern includes a link to a Scaling a Pattern tutorial on the website.

What yarn do I need?

My Goat was made with Scheepjes Chunky Monkey Aran, 100% Premium Acrylic, 116m per 100g.

MC: 200g approx of Camel (1710) - Body, Head, Arms, Legs, Ears & Tail.

CC1: 50g approx of White (1001) - Head, Eye Lids, Beard & Embroidered Details.

CC2: 80g approx of Chocolate (1004) - Arms, Legs, Horns, Eyes & Embroidered Details.

Yarns can vary depending on brand, generally UK Aran ones are equivalent to US Medium or Worsted weight yarn.

This particular acrylic yarn has a soft finish and slight sheen and gives good stitch definition.

For best results choose a similar weight acrylic yarn with a similar number of metres per 50g.

Don't forget, using an alternative yarn may alter the amount of yarn needed in each colour.

What about Tension/Gauge?

14 sts x 16 rows = 10cm/4in measured over UK dc/US sc using 5mm hook with Aran Scheepjes Chunky Monkey Acrylic.

Tension/Gauge is not critical for this project but stitches should be tight enough to avoid stuffing showing through.

What size Hook do I need?

I used a 5mm hook for the above yarn.

I wanted a soft and squidgy finish. If you prefer a firmer finish, go down to a 4 mm hook - your Goat will be firmer, will come out slightly smaller and you'll use a little less yarn.

You may need to go up or down a hook size depending on your own natural tension when crocheting.

What other supplies are needed to make the Goat?

A yarn needle for sewing the parts together and toy stuffing, stitch markers (or waste yarn), pins and scissors.

What else does the pattern include?

A clickable contents page - easily jump to the right page for the different pattern parts.

An Abbreviations List for all the terms used.

Full Making Up Instructions.
