Most players solo over a chord progression by picking one pentatonic scale for the key and staying in it. It works, in the sense that you won't hit a wrong note. It also means your line ignores everything happening underneath it.

This is a system for applying a pentatonic scale to each chord instead — so the solo follows the changes and sounds like you know exactly where you are. It works over simple progressions and complicated ones, and you can start using it the day you read it.

Deliberately simple. It needs no real theory to put into practice, which makes it a solid first improvisation method for beginners and a useful correction for intermediate players who've been wailing over backing tracks for years.

Pentatonic Chord Tone Soloing

I downloaded this free e-book which was quite generous of the publishers, and look forward to progressing on to the more advanced ones, which I certainly won't mind paying for.
