Beyond the Surface™ Play, Engage & Explore Collection: Volume 1 brings interaction, curiosity, choice, and a little play into adult therapy while keeping the clinical work intentional.

Created for therapists who want additional ways to engage adults in meaningful therapeutic conversation, Volume 1 includes four interactive therapeutic experiences, each using a different style of engagement. Clients can explore coping, boundaries, choices, interpersonal situations, assumptions, communication, and patterns through experiences designed to help them participate in the therapeutic process rather than simply talk about it.

These are not children's games adapted for adults, and they are not trivia activities with therapy language added to them. Each experience was developed specifically for adult-centered clinical engagement and includes opportunities for discussion, reflection, skill-building, experiential learning, and deeper processing.

What's Included

Coping Skills Challenge™

A game-board-style interactive challenge that helps clients explore, identify, and practice coping strategies through real-life situations. Increasing challenge levels encourage application and critical thinking without requiring clients to know clinical terminology.

Where's the Line?™

An interactive boundary experience built around real-life scenarios, predictions, and hidden-response reveals. Clients explore the differences between boundaries, requests, preferences, control, avoidance, and situations that may require further conversation or context.

What Happens Next?™

A decision-based experience in which clients choose a response before seeing a possible outcome. Clients can explore alternative paths, reconsider choices, and examine what different responses may protect, communicate, avoid, or create.

Read the Room™

A progressive clue-reveal experience that helps clients examine assumptions, interpretations, uncertainty, social cues, and perspective. Information is revealed gradually so clients can notice how their understanding changes as additional context becomes available.

Designed for Flexible Clinical Use

Volume 1 can support:

Individual therapy • Groups • Appropriate family sessions • Telehealth • In-person sessions

Each experience can be adapted to the needs of the session. Competition is optional. The goal is not simply getting the "right" answer. The clinical value comes from exploring how the client arrived at an answer, what influenced the response, what patterns emerge, and what the experience opens for further therapeutic work.

The collection also includes a comprehensive Therapist Facilitation Guide to help clinicians move from play into meaningful therapeutic processing.

The guide includes:

Download the collection, unzip the folder, open a game in a standard web browser, and begin.

The games can be used locally on a computer and do not require an internet connection for their core functionality. For telehealth, therapists can open the game locally and share their browser window during the session.
