Rigolet

In 2015, the town of Rigolet in Northern Labrador completed the Seashore Boardwalk along their rugged and beautiful coastline. At 9 kilometres long, it is the world’s longest boardwalk. Extraordinary scenery in one of the most remote communities, the town is accessible only by airplane or seasonally by ferry. A boardwalk of stranded colourwork, mitered at the hem, encircles each side of the Rigolet sweater and tries to embody the majestic beauty of Rigolet’s boardwalk along its remote shoreline. The secret pocket in the Rigolet sweater is inspired by the archaeological dig site at the end of Rigolet’s boardwalk, in Double Mer Point, that holds mysteries of the past.

Gauge

Stockinette: 28 sts and 35 rows to 10cm / 4” with size A needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Stranded colourwork: 28 sts and 34 rnds to 10cm / 4” of stranded colourwork pattern using size B needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles and Notions

Gauge was achieved with the following needle sizes. Many knitters find that they need to use smaller needles for single colour stockinette to achieve the same gauge as the colourwork; you may or may not need smaller size needles for the stockinette stripes than what you need to use for the colourwork. You must swatch and always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 3mm (US 2.5) 24” MC body and hem cast on for stranded colourwork band; 40” for single-colour stockinette rounds in stranded colourwork band and for sleeves if using magic loop; if preferred, DPNs for sleeves

You will also need:

Removable markers; stitch markers; scrap yarn or spare needles or interchangeable cables to hold stitches; spare needles or interchangeable cables for the provisional cast on
