LOOK I'VE DONE A THING!

From tentative painter to bold, messy artist — discover an expressive, joyful and soul-soothing approach to painting.

Look, I've Done a Thing!

A student once announced triumphantly, “Look, I’ve done a thing!!” … and it stuck.

I'm so proud of this course as it's the closest thing to joining me at Fig Tin for one of my workshops. Filmed in one take with three cameras, it’s raw, it's real, and full of my usual glorious chaos.

It’s messy, rebellious, and full of yes you can! It’s about finding a way of painting with freedom and confidence, a way that's forgiving and achievable.

You’ll learn the techniques I teach in my 3-day workshops:

  • Loosening up with mark making, layering, scraping, and scratching
  • Playing with colour and principles of design
  • Calming the chaos and pulling it together harmoniously
  • Creating imagined, abstracted compositions — without planning or sketching

By the end, you’ll have the tools (and the courage) to say:

“Look, I’ve done a thing!”

Who's This Course For?

This course is for you if…

  • Staring at a blank panel and thought, “Where do I even start?”
  • Want to loosen up and stop worrying about doing it “right?”
  • Colour feels scary (or safe) and you’re ready to push it bolder.
  • Fear of judgment or comparison holding you back?
  • Ready to create a little differently? Now you want to really play with freedom and confidence!

If you can’t get to my studio in Bewdley, this is the next best thing — join me at my messy table, captured in all its glory chaos!

FAQ

Is it different to my other acrylics course “Abstract Familiarity”?

Yes — but it’s not a “next step” course, so if you have done the first one, you're not repeating things. We're following the same process because I only teach my own process.

This course is all about the process yes and the benefits to creating in such a forgiving way — there’s no set outcome, no “paint this” instruction. I don’t know what you’ll create, and that’s the fun of it! I’m there with you, talking, demoing, encouraging, and helping you find your own way to paint.

It’s much more immersive — filmed professionally with multiple camera angles, so you feel what it's like to be with me at the messy table. The first course was filmed overhead and a bit more tutorial-style; this one’s more of an experience — more depth, more energy, more of everything. And comes with a handy little e-book!

What You'll Need

  • MDF or wooden panel , gesso - not canvas!
  • Acrylic paints (I stick to a limited palette, you’ll see why)
  • Brushes (big, small, cheap
  • A palette knife and a metal clay scraper
  • Pencils and favourite scribbly things mark making
  • Kitchen roll, baking parchment, a tray, water pot and sprayer, messy clothes, and a cup of tea, and some snacks. Maybe some gin.
