Luminous Ladybug

This is a pattern for a knitted, Estonian lace shawl. I used lace weight yarn and two different needles; US sizes 4 and 6.  I used a 2 ply, lace weight, 100% alpace yarn for this piece. 3,080 yards  Yes it will stretch.  Wool can be substituted if you desire. This large square shawl is worked using traditional Estonian construction. First the large body piece is worked in rows and then the edging is knit in two long pieces that are then sewn on with a darning needle. The lace weight yarn is ideal for working the nupps and having a light and airy piece. There are many nupps in the border of the body piece. The center is worked in an 8 row repeat where half of the rows are purl only. The edging is worked in various knit stitches in two pieces before being sewn on. A lace yarn with elasticity will block out and show the designs nicely.
