Kain Kapal or Ship Cloth, is one of the famous tenun tapis (tapis hand weaving) from Lampung province in Indonesia, place where I live. It has long history back to Dongsong era millenias ago. It once was declared as extinct textile art, but the traditional owners in coastal region of Lampung have been struggling to revive the craftsmanship since 1900s. Thanks to them, nowadays we have this motifs again in local weaving guilds, with the original natural and organic dyeing techniques still being in used.

I made this design to support the efforts to introduce again the "long lost" art and to introduce the one of the so many traditional weaving motifs in Indonesia.
