Saxon Romanesque Notebook

This notebook features high-resolution reproductions from a twelfth-century Gospel Book of Henry the Lion and Matilda of England, one of the great survivals of Romanesque manuscript art in northern Europe.

The front cover presents Christ in Majesty, enthroned within a rainbow mandorla and surrounded by the symbolic order of creation. The composition reflects the Romanesque synthesis of theology, cosmology, and kingship: Christ as Logos, judge and sustaining centre of the world.

The back cover depicts St. John the Evangelist, shown in the act of divine inspiration from the Holy Spirit.
