Solo part for soloist study - not for performance!

This suite was originally planned to consist of six movements, but it ultimately strayed from that structure, which would have made it resemble a neo-Baroque pastiche even more. I usually include a wealth of details and hidden stories in my program notes, but for this piece, I simply let the music speak for itself. I merely highlight aspects that connect the sounds to the titles given to each movement. I. Polyphony—a slight obsession with canons and imitations that creates a web within which the bassoon and some shadow instruments express themselves. II. Toccata—an articulate, mechanical race among all the instruments. III. Melody—serves as the piece’s central movement, and it is here that the music is less abstract. There is an attempt to reveal the soul of Póvoa and its relationship with the sea. IV. Monody—here there is no dialogue between the soloist and the ensemble (reduced to wind instruments); rather, there is a coloring and punctuation of the bassoon line that seems to be in a monologue.
